Background

Dire Dawa Development Association  (DDDA)  is a non-profit, membership-based local NGO established in 1993 with a mission to contribute towards the socio-economic development effort of the region through sustainable integrated community based programs primarily focused on Livelihoods, Empowerment, Health, Education, Food Security, Environment Conservation and Natural resources management. It is registered as Ethiopian resident charity with registration number 4027 on basis of the Federal charities and society’s proclamation number

DDDA is structured as General Assembly, Board of Directors, Executive office/Secretariat, Departments/services, Sections and Branches. The General Assembly meets once every three years to assess the overall performance of the Association and also elects members of the board of directors for the next term, and endorses the strategic plan of the Association.  The Board of Directors, consisting of nine members, gives policy direction, provides the overall guidance to the executive office, and approves the plan of operations and budget of the organization. The executive office plans, coordinates, organizes and facilitates the implementation of activities of the association. Currently, the Association has 10000 individual and 40 corporate members, and 120 volunteers working at community level

It operates throughout Dire Dawa with special emphasis to women, children, hard to reach and marginalized segment of the community through sustainable integrated Community based programs primarily focused on livelihood, health, education, youth empowerment, environment & food security. DDDA is operating in all 9 kebele of the town and 38 kebele  of the rural of  dire dawa  administrative , also has over 10 technical and administrative staffs.

Since its establishment it has implemented more than 10 community development and relief projects mainly focus on health, education, livelihood and environmental conservation with more than 3mil ETB raised from its members contribution, special fund raising programs,

The partnership and networks created with government structures and international donor agencies also worth mentioning efforts by all standards which pave the ways for our sustainable resource mobilization for execution of development programs.

Accordingly, DDDA is making significant contributions to the development efforts in the region and the country by filling the gaps in development. In turn, this efforts also contributing to achieving the targets of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP), and Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Vision:

To see the people of  Dire Dawa Administration  with enhanced attitude of preparedness and self-reliance, and solving its development challenges by its own capacity through united and concerted efforts in the year 2025.

Mission:
The mission of DDDA is mobilizing and coordinating the capacity of the people, members, and its supporters to foster the development endeavor and benefit of the people of Dire Dawa Administration in the areas of Health, Education, Employment creation, and others in a sustained community involvement.
